We selected a dozen lessons from the Absolute Beginner level so you could evaluate the quality of our lessons and make sure you can master the Russian language. To start learning Russian with our free lessons you need to sign up and check the box for Free Lessons in the last step of the registration. The free lessons are not marked in any way in the general list of lessons but you may always find them at the bottom of the site in the first column. The only difference between the free lessons and premium ones is the ability to ask questions and add comments to lessons. The option will be made available after upgrading to a premium level.

Lesson 1

Russian alphabet

The Russian alphabet has 31 letters and two signs. In this lesson, you'll learn the letters and their sounds. Knowing the letters and their sounds will allow you to learn to read Russian words and sentences in the lessons without English transliteration.

This is the first sound practice lesson in the Absolute Beginner level, in which you'll learn and practice Russian vowel sounds by practicing them in words repeatedly. You will also learn how stressed vowels are marked in words.

The letter Б produces two sounds when it is used with different vowels: hard Б and soft Б. In this lesson you'll practice all the possible combinations of Б with vowels, so you can learn their correct pronunciation.

До свидания is a respectful and frequently used form of saying bye in Russian, which can be heard more often in the formal environment. До свидания can be literally translated as till meeting meaning see you soon.

Как дела? - is the most common question that we ask to learn about someone's progress or general situation. We ask the question when we meet a familiar person, especially when we haven't seen him recently and there is a lot to tell.
